Peer Connections

Peer Connections is a new opportunity for young professionals in local government to connect and build their professional network throughout the greater sector.

During your career you will meet incredible people either in your department, at your council, attending conferences, or while at a training course. These people share their stories and experience from their career in local government, providing insights and ideas that you can relate to and feel inspired by and most importantly, can have a positive influence on your career.

As a new member benefit and exclusive to Next Gen members, Peer Connections aims to connect you with like-minded, young professionals as well as educate you on best networking practices and provides an opportunity to hear and learn from leaders in local government on the importance of having a professional network.

How does it work?

Peer Connections is an online event held every few months and is designed to help build your professional network and exposure to employees from all areas of council.

All participants will attend a brief Zoom conference call, where you will be joined by an expert speaker or senior leader in local government. Here you will have the opportunity to hear fun networking stories and experiences, as well as be guided on how best to grow your network.

Everyone will then be paired off at random into a Zoom meeting room with a fellow networking partner to share a little about yourself and your role at council. It is encouraged that you share contact details during this first session and make time for at least two 30-minute conversations with your networking partner over the coming months to build a strong connection and have the opportunity to learn from each other’s experience.

Who should attend?

This is a free and exclusive event for LG Professionals, NSW Next Gen members to connect with other local government employees throughout the state.

Our first Peer Connections event will also be open to attendees of the 2020 Next Gen Conference.

The networking session will be held at 10am on the following dates:
Thursday, 4 March 2021
Thursday, 17 June 2021
Thursday, 2 September 2021
Thursday, 25 November 2021

Having a large and diverse professional network in local government is an incredible resource, as the business of council is so varied and continually evolving. It will support your career growth and broaden your career perspective as you engage with other professionals from all areas of council.
