Giving Constructive Feedback

Giving Constructive Feedback
Learning outcome: to understand the importance of values and how they inform peoples behaviours, and to give feedback clearly with a method that supports good decision making from the recipient

Feedback is more than telling someone your opinion of what they did well or poorly.  It is an opportunity to highlight a choice that was made or missed, so the next time a similar situation arises a better choice is made.  Without clarity around the consequences associated with the choices we make, decision making is unsound and the feedback about the decision is aimless commentary or unfair critique.  Additionally, feedback could be around behaviour or actions, which seem personal to address.  In this course participants will unpack how to deliver feedback clearly to create a culture of sound decision making.

The topics covered include:
  • Understanding values and how they expressed as behaviour
  • Our personal values v council values
  • Method to deliver all feedback
  • The importance of tone and language
  • Understanding the importance of personal consequences
  • When we should give feedback
