MAY 2017 EDITION
  From the President

Over the year we have been working hard to provide quality advocacy and representation for our members to the New South Wales Government. At our LG Awards Dinner earlier this year we were thrilled to welcome both the Deputy Premier the Hon. John Barilaro MP and the Minister for Local Government the Hon. Gabrielle Upton MP to present awards to our members. We were also excited to welcome the Minister for Planning the Hon. Anthony Roberts MP to our LG Hot Topics event, providing valuable insights for our members into the future of planning in New South Wales. Our relationships with other government stakeholders including the Office of Local Government, the Department of Premier and Cabinet, the Greater Sydney Commission, the Audit Office of NSW, ICAC, TCorp, Service NSW and the NSW Ombudsman have grown to form a strong advocacy platform for our members and the sector. We look forward to continuing to deepening and expand these relationships over the remainder of the year and keeping our members informed of our advocacy work going forward.

From the CEO

We have been busy this year holding a range of new and refreshed events and training programmes across the state for our members and celebrating excellence in local government at our LG Awards Dinner in March which had over 330 attendees and record number of awards. In March, we also held the Australasian Management Challenge providing teams with the opportunity to put their problem solving and team work skills to the test as they worked through a series of challenges. Mid-Western Regional Council were the winners of the NSW Challenge with Camden Council achieving second place followed by Fairfield City Council. The Mid-Western Team will be going to Hobart this month to compete in the national finals and we wish them well. We also were excited to award the Col Mills Memorial Scholarship to five of our members providing them with opportunities to advance their professional careers with each receiving $1,500 towards any professional development opportunity offered by LG Professionals, NSW. Daniel Fulton, Manager and Emily Raymond were further awarded the Col Mills Memorial Award and will be attending both the LG Professionals Congress as nominees for the National Young Manager of the Year Award announced at the congress dinner. We wish Mid-Western Council all the best in Hobart for the Australasian Management Challenge Final and Daniel and Emily all the best in their award nomination.
