MARCH 2017 EDITION
  From the President

We started this year with a renewed focus on advocacy for our members, and the new Berejiklian-Barilaro Government has presented a perfect opportunity for us to refresh and deepen our relationship with the NSW Government and other key stakeholders. We were one of the first stakeholders to meet with the Hon. Gabrielle Upton MP as the new Minister for the Environment, Minister for Local Government, and Minister for Heritage and we used this opportunity to advocate for an end to the uncertainty around amalgamations and a broader, more inclusive approach towards reforming the local government sector. We look forward to continuing to advocate for our members through the Ministerial Advisory Group and additional meeting with Government Stakeholders over the year and will be keeping our members updated on the progress.

From the CEO

This year has started with a bang, we have had our offices refurbished, a range of new events and training programs developed as well as a renewed capacity to represent our members in our advocacy to NSW Government and other key stakeholders. New events such as our Workforce of Tomorrow Conference and our Executive Roundtable series have already taken place, and we are excited for our Communities in Focus event next month. We have also held our Stepping into Supervisor training course this year, and we look forward to our first regional aspiring mentor programme taking place later this month in Tamworth and Griffith. We have also released the Australasian LG Performance Excellence Program to 134 councils across Western Australia, New Zealand and New South Wales. We look forward to continuing to develop this exciting Program in collaboration with PwC over the coming months with a focus on developing a stronger network of participating councils and creating a regional lense for the data.
