Scholarships

Throughout the year Local Government Professionals Australia, NSW is pleased to offer our members various scholarship opportunities. These are unique opportunities to attend conferences, participate in study tours or be enrolled in one of our residential learning courses.

Our scholarships are designed to reward our members with opportunities to further their professional development and broaden their networks.

Local Government Professionals Australia, NSW Scholarships

COL MILLS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AND AWARD: The Col Mills scholarship was formed in 1999, in memory of active member Col Mills, who was a strong advocate of creating opportunities for members to advance their professional careers. This memorial scholarship is made available specifically to younger LG Professionals, NSW members in an effort to provide them with access to important professional development activities.

SCHOLARSHIP INCLUSIONS
Successful scholarship recipients will receive up to $1500 towards any professional development opportunity (conference or training course) offered by LG Professionals, NSW. The scholarship can be used towards registration fees, accommodation, travel or other related costs of attending. 


DICK CAHILL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AND AWARD: Dick Cahill was a well-known local government finance professional who contributed so much to his profession, spanning over 35 years. Dick was still working for Camden Council and had only just announced his retirement before his sudden death in 2001. The Dick Cahill Memorial Scholarship encourages the ongoing development and training of up and coming finance professional staff within NSW local government. 

SCHOLARSHIP INCLUSIONS
     - Full conference registration to attend LG Finance 2017
     - Two night’s accommodation at the conference venue 
     - Registration for any ancillary events associated with the conference


COMMUNITY SERVICES SCHOLARSHIP: This scholarship is provided specifically for members working in the field of community services who would like to attend the annual conference for community service professionals. In 2017 this event will be LG Communities in Focus.

SCHOLARSHIP INCLUSIONS
     - Full conference registration to attend LG Communities in Focus in March 2017.  
     - One night’s accommodation at the conference venue 
     - Registration for any ancillary events associated with the conference



GOVERNANCE SCHOLARSHIP: This scholarship is provided specifically for members working in the field of governance who would like to attend the annual LG Governance conference.

SCHOLARSHIP INCLUSIONS
     - Full conference registration to attend LG Governance in March 2017.  
     - One night’s accommodation at the conference venue 
     - Registration for any ancillary events associated with the conference



INTEGRATED PLANNERS SCHOLARSHIP: This scholarship is provided specifically for members working in the field of integrated planning who would like to attend the annual LG Integrated Planning conference.

SCHOLARSHIP INCLUSIONS
     - Full conference registration to attend LG Integrated Planners in August 2017.  
     - One night’s accommodation at the conference venue 
     - Registration for any ancillary events associated with the conference



RURAL AND REGIONAL MEMBERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP: This scholarship has been developed specifically to support rural and regional members and assist off set additional expenses incurred travelling to training and conferences.

SCHOLARSHIP INCLUSIONS
Successful scholarship recipients will receive up to 30% subsidy on registration costs to attend any professional development opportunity (conference or training course) offered by LG Professionals, NSW. 



Scholarship Terms and Conditions

Each scholarship recipient will be bound by the variable conditions of the scholarship applied for, in addition the following terms and conditions apply to all scholarships awarded by Local Government Professionals Australia, NSW:

  • Scholarship recipients agree to be bound by the Code of Conduct, the laws of Australia, the policies of their employer and local government and the laws of the country in which they are undertaking their scholarship.
  • Scholarship recipients agree to comply with the requirements of the scholarship as specified on the scholarship application form.
  • Scholarship recipients must demonstrate that their council’s general manager supports their participation in the scholarship.
  • Scholarship recipients must ensure they have read and understood the full requirements of the specific scholarship they are applying for.
  • All applicants must be employed in a council in NSW.

In addition:
Whilst holding a position on the Local Government Professionals Australia, NSW board, no board member can apply for, or be awarded, an Local Government Professionals Australia, NSW scholarship. Executive committee members (Local Government Professionals Australia, NSW Committees or Member Network Committees) may apply and be awarded a Local Government Professionals Australia, NSW scholarship position whilst holding a current position on a committee, however, they must step down from any judging panel position they might hold for that scholarship in that year to ensure an objective process is followed. A limit of one Local Government Professionals Australia, NSW scholarship per person, per calendar year, is available to ensure multiple members and professionals are able to receive professional development opportunities.   

Local Government Professionals Australia, NSW reserves the right to withdraw any offer of scholarship should a breach of these terms and conditions occur.
