International Study Tours

Local Government Professionals Australia, NSW members have the opportunity of a life time to be a part of these international study tours with a programme of learning from and networking with local government leaders in the United States of America or New Zealand.

These study tours are an excellent professional development opportunity for our members to develop their skills, competencies and knowledge in their chosen field(s), whilst making invaluable connections and life long friendships.  

The New Zealand International Study Tours have one place with preference given to an up and coming professional (other than a General Manager). The United States of America Study Tour has two places with preference given to a senior executive (General Manager) and an up and coming professional (other than a General Manager).

2016-2017 NZ International Study Tour winner announced!


Local Government Professionals Australia, NSW are proud to announce the 2016-2017 winners of the International Study Tours. One winner was chosen to represent us in New Zealand with two chosen for the United States of America where they will meet and liaise with local councils. This experience will give insight into how these councils run, manage staff and contribute to their community, all valuable information that can be taken back to their own council.

New Zealand International Study Tour Winner

Lynette Safranek

Lynette will travel to New Zealand in September 2016 and attend the SOLGM Annual Summit 21-23 September 2016 in Auckland.

United States of America International Study Tour Winners

Catherine and Todd will travel to Monterey in California to attend the City Managers Department Meeting, February 8 - 10 2017.

These study tours are an excellent professional development opportunity for our members to develop their skills, competencies and knowledge in their chosen field(s), whilst making invaluable connections and life long friendships.  

Study tour inclusions:

  • Return economy airfares to the study tour destination
  • Home hosting arrangements through the reciprocal association
  • Support with your itinerary
  • Registration, including all social functions and accommodation to a nominated conference hosted by the reciprocal association. In New Zealand this is the SOLGM Annual Summit and in USA this is the City Manager’s Conference.

 

Who should apply

All Local Government Professionals Australia, NSW members, who are fully financial and have been for a minimum of twelve months are encouraged to apply. Please note that even if you have not held membership for twelve months or more, your application will still be assessed for consideration.

Selection is based on your professional experience and interests as well your personal motivation and objectives for attending the study tour. Applicants must be a permanent employee of local government in NSW.
